Why I Have No Money: An Introspective

I wish I could say because I donate it all to charity.

No, I have no money because that which doesn’t go to the Bare Necessities of Living most often finds its way to activities or materials that allow me to forget who/where I am for a while.

Concerts. Festivals. Clothes to wear to them.
Workout gear. Headphones. A gym membership.

That’s pretty much it, as far as my disposable income goes: music & exercise, with the occasional travel itinerary for the simple pleasure of visiting friends sprinkled in.
Huge Bonus: having no bar tab, no liquor store receipts, no keg deposits.

Because I genuinely enjoy these expenditures, I don’t feel guilty about allocating funds to them.

Why do we need to slog through half our life in order to get paid, only to turn around and spend the other half trying to forget that we do?

Granted it’s an oversimplification, but for the average person: yeah. That’s probably how it goes. Maybe you get lucky, and you enjoy your job. Maybe you get even luckier, and are compensated handsomely for it.

Those are pretty big “asks” for this world, though.

I get why people opt to “go off the grid” and live “alternatively.”
I’d like to believe that I could, too…but if I’m being honest with myself, I think I enjoy Consumerism a little too much to ever completely forsake it.

I’d be lying if I said spending money doesn’t make me feel good.

Let’s refocus that: I’d like to develop a lifestyle where spending money and not spending money can bring me equal amounts of joy and fulfillment.

I’d like to believe it’s out there.
